Genetics

There are three types of genetic tests: autosomal, mitochondrial (mtDNA) and Y-DNA. Autosomal test will find you genetical connections to the people of the world on both mother's and father's side, while mtDNA test will tell your mitochondrial DNA haplogroup that you inherited from mother, grandmother etc. and connections with other people over maternal sides. Y-DNA test is only for males, because females don't have an Y-chromosome, and it will tell your Y-haplogroup and paternal connections with other people.

Version 0,95

Version 2,5

Ethnicity Estimate v0.95 is 8 years older. It was developed using a smaller reference panel and uses a more simplistic algorithm. Ethnicity Estimate v2.5, is based on a new algorithm developed by the MyHeritage Science Team from the ground up. Thanks to two years of research and fine tuning, v2.5 has a better resolution, with 79 ethnicities, compared to 42 in v0.95. For more information, read MyHeritage blog post.
